Grille Installation

Step 1

This is the new front grille.

Step 2

Open the hood, and locate the six screws that hold the OEM grille in place.

Step 3

Here is the other side. Notice one of the screws is in a different location than the previous side.

Step 4

Using a socket wrench, unscrew all six (6) screws that hold the OEM grille in place. Be careful not to drop them into the engine bay, I had a tough time getting one of them back out. It's easier to drop them in than you think it is... be careful!

Step 5

Grab one end of the grille as shown. Pull towards you to release it from the body.

Step 6

After both ends have been released, pull the entire grille off as shown.

Step 7

This is the SLK without a front grille.

Step 8

Since the new grille does not come with a MB star, you must remove your old star. Use a thin flathead screwdriver to carefully pry it off. The star is plastic, so be careful not to notch the ends while prying. Patience is everything in this step. Once you have removed the star, place it on the new grille in the same fashion and apply small amounts of the included glue adhesive to each tab. Press firmly and wait to completely dry.

Step 9

Place the new grille into the original location in the same fashion as the original grille.

Step 10

Replace and fasten the screws in thier original mounting locations here as shown.

Step 11

On the other side, however, one of the mounting points is not used. Fasten the one closer to the star only.

Step 12

As you can see in this picture, the final mounting point is not used. You will have one screw left over. Keep it in a safe place in case you decide to replace your OEM grille. The final mounting point on your new grille simply rests over a tab located on the frame as shown in the RED circle. The original mounting point is shown in the BLUE circle. This is not used for this grille.

Step 13

Here is the finished look of your new SL-Type Sport Grille! A product such as Armor-All or any other type of black polish will work excellent on this grille when new. Carefully apply using a towel, getting the product into each slab. The result is a perfect glossy black front grille for your friends to envy!
